Chemical-free formulas to avoid toxin buildup

Use chemical free formulas on face and hair as they are free from harmful toxins like sulfates and parabens and are gentle on our body due to the rich natural nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants present in them. Sulfates, parabens and other chemicals will be absorbed by the body and are accumulated over time leading to toxic build up causing damage to the body over time. They strip off natural oils from the face and hair leading to dryness and irritation. Herbal products are environmentally friendly due to the biodegradable ingredients and sustainable sourcing. They promote long term health and beauty benefits and the risk of allergic reactions or skin irritation and long-term damage is less when herbal cosmetics are used. Some herbal brands are even committed to cruelty-free practices and their products are not tested on animals. As there are no harsh chemicals in them, the products are safe for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

Hair dye chemicals, face masks and sunscreen can be absorbed through the scalp / face and inhaled leading to potential health problems. Research studies have shown that preservatives such as paraben and formaldehyde, fragrance or perfume such as phthalates, heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, pigments used in hair dyes such as coal tar dyes and chemicals such as oxybenzone used in sunscreen may be linked to health problems ranging from mild skin irritation to serious problems such as asthma, cancer, liver damage, kidney damage and fertility problems over the period of time. So, it is important for us to read the labels carefully so as to minimize exposure to these harmful chemicals and choose herbal products containing natural ingredients.

Oils like Kumkumadi Tailam for skin glow and Bhringraj oil for hair vitality

Kumkumadi tailam is an Ayurveda facial oil for anti-aging prepared from natural oils and Kumkuma (saffron) as the key ingredient. It is loaded with powerful antioxidants such as crocetin and crocin which protect the skin from environmental damage. Kumkumadi oil helps reduce dark spots and pigmentation by balancing melanin production. It also repaird and rejuvenated the skin cells thus improving overall skin tone and texture. The nourishing ingredients in Kumkumadi oil such as sesame oil and goat’s milk boosts collagen production, hydrates the skin deeply, makes the skin supple and firm. In the evening hours, wash your face with mild cleanser and pat it dry. Take 2 – 3 drops of Kumkumadi oil and gently massage onto your face and neck using upward or circular strokes for 2 – 3 minutes or until the oil is fully absorbed. Leave it overnight. If you have an oily or acne-prone skin, wash it off after 30 minutes. Consistent use of Kumkumadi oil for a period of 4 to 6 weeks will help brighten your skin, improve skin tone and texture. Although Kumkumadi oil is suitable for all skin types (oily, dry, normal and sensitive), people with oily or sensitive skin should use Kumkumadi oil sparingly.

Bhringraj oil is a classical Ayurveda preparation where the main active ingredient Bhringraj (Eclipta Alba) is cooked in sesame oil along with other ingredients such as Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), fenugreek, etc in the traditional oil preparation method. The different herbs used in Bhringraj oil nourishes the hair follicles by increasing blood supply to the scalp, strengthens hair roots, reduces breakage and thinning of hairs, prevents early graying of hairs, adds shine to the hair and revitalizes hairs. Take small quantity of Bhringraj oil (quantity will be based on your hair length) and warm it. Now apply the oil on the scalp using fingertips and massage gently in circular motions for 5 to 7 minutes. Now apply little oil on the hair strands as well. Leave the oil on the scalp for atleast 1 – 2 hours if you have oily scalp or overnight if having dry scalp, and then wash the hair using herbal shampoos.

Other oils such as Nalpamaradi kera tailam, Neelibhringadi tailam also have antiaging properties.
