Ayurveda detox as a prevention for chronic illness and dull skin
The human body effectively eliminates toxins through the skin, liver and kidneys. Even a healthy person needs a periodic detox boost because there will be micro toxins in his body caused due to environmental factors such as pollution and adverse effects of the climate, unable to stick 100% to the healthy diet because of social parties, etc. and even if he does follow the diet, there are lot of pesticides and chemicals used in growing vegetables, fruits and grains which subsequently affect his Agni. Aging, chronic diseases and dull skin are the manifestations of internal imbalances in the Doshas and Agni due to the buildup of Ama. Ama clogs the channels of circulation, affecting the nutrient circulation in the body.
We live in a world where we are exposed to pollution every day, and the personal products & household cleaning agents we use have chemicals that cause detrimental effects to health. Smoking, consumption of alcohol, caffeine, excess intake of fast food, processed food and high levels of stress in the present-day fast-paced lifestyle lower immunity and affect our body’s ability to get rid of the toxins, making our body prone to infections and diseases.
If you are looking forward to switching to a healthy diet and lifestyle changes, the first step should be a body cleanse / detox.

When should you do a detox?
The body is susceptible to infections during seasonal changes. This is because our biological clock falters during fluctuations in weather, causing imbalances. So, it is a good step to do a detox during the seasonal change to improve health and nourish the body and mind. Seasonal detox has been given importance in Ayurveda.
-
Since there is an increase of Vata in our body, which naturally occurs in monsoon, Basti Panchakarma (Enema therapy) is recommended in monsoon to restore the balance of Vata and nourish the body.
-
In autumn, Virechana Panchakarma (Purgation therapy) is recommended to calm the vitiated Pitta during the season.
-
Nasya Panchakarma (Nasal treatment) is highly suggested in the spring season to cleanse the nasal passages and restore the balance of Kapha Dosha.
