Pippalyasavam 

Pippalyasavam is a fermented Ayurvedic herbal product and used traditionally in Ayurveda for various ailments such as anaemia, loss of appetite, sprue, spleen and liver troubles, other abdominal problems. It is also used in lean patient to increase body weight by increasing appetite and digestion process.

Main Ingredients of Pippalyasavam

Long pepper is main ingredient in Pippalyasavam and it may be efficacious in increasing appetite. It also contains Black pepper, Plumbago zeylanica, Embelia ribes, Cyclea peltata, Piper cubeba, cyperus rotundus, vetiveria zizanioides, Indian gooseberry, Cardamom, Sandalwood, and Clove etc.

Ayurveda Pharmacological action of Pippalyasavam

Pippalyasavam is used in vata and kapha diseases in Ayurveda. It is beneficial in abdominal diseases. It has property of digestive stimulant and appetizer. It helps to increase gastric secretions as well as bile secretion from the liver. It may improve digestion so it is used in indigestion.

Pippalyasavam also has property of analgesic and sometimes relieves abdominal pain or stomach pain. It is also beneficial in removing wind from the abdominal cavity. Therefore, it can help alleviate cramps like pain present due to gas troubles.

In women, it stimulates menstrual flow. Therefore, it is also used in  Ayurveda for amenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea or menstrual cramps.

Side effects of Pippalyasavam

Pippalyasavam should not be used in gastritis, heartburn, or GERD.

There is no side effects mentioned in Ayurveda texts or reported by clients as such from prescribed therapeutic dosage of this preparation.
